Plush Rush

Four year old Amy marvels at the sights and sounds of the Christmas glitz in Edgars, pointing and remonstrating for a closer look.

A large display of furry toys catches her eye; it is all Dad can do to prevent her escaping his clutches and diving in.

Frustrated by her limited vantage point she demands closer inspection of the zoological pool that is baying, quacking and mooing in response to an interactive audience of children.

To avoid the inevitable tantrum Dad leans over the encompassing wire mesh and lowers Amy gently onto the hillock of soft animals. Overstretched and with an unexpected subsidence from the mound of playthings, father totters head first into the screeching melee of distressed make-believe livestock.
A deluge of plush toys swamp the prostrate father, leaving Amy perched, somewhat nonplussed, on top.

Red-faced, Dad collects himself in the forlorn hope that no-one, or at the very least, few have noticed.

Alas, there is no escape. Other than to take a bow to the rapturous applause of passers-by, not to mention the impertinence of a sales lady from the cosmetic department who holds up a white card with the number 10 scribbled on it.

Wonderful! I SAW it!

Leave out last bit, after passers-by. I had to re-read from “… not to mention…“ to understand that she was rating Dad’s gymnastic performance. Was she?

Hilarious.  Children have such a gift for comedy without even realising it. So did Dad in this piece.

No gremlins, no typos.  A story well written with a beginning, a middle and an end (old school, but it works.)

Points 5 - Perfect! This piece of writing, in my opinion, cannot be improved!
