The WHAT?

“I am looking for bowls for my Christmas puddings,” the old lady’s voice rose. Quite honestly, the young shop assistant had never heard of Christmas pudding. That was not her tradition. What could a Christmas pudding bowl look like? She showed the old lady a flat square casserole dish.

“My dear girl, do you not know what a Christmas pudding is? I just cannot believe you young people. I have bought my Christmas pudding bowls here at Clicks, every year for many years!”  The old lady was getting irate.

“I can see you don’t know what I am talking about,” she fumed. “That’s the trouble with you young people, you don’t follow any traditions. Look, there isn’t even a Christmas tree with an angel in the centre.”

“I will ask my supervisor,’ offered the assistant less than helpfully. This old duck was irritating. She didn’t see why she should assist her. She had been warned that there would be difficult people, the customer is always right,  every bad rumour multiplies itself 55 times…. so what.

She walked over to her supervisor.

“Please can you tell that old lady why we haven’t got a Christmas tree with an angel at Balfour Square and where to find the Christmas pudding bowls here at Clicks.

“The what?......

Ja-nee. Reminds me of that silly song: There’s a hole in my Bucket, dear Liza, dear Liza

Humour is the only way to handle Christmas stress,,,

I think it would have been even funnier if you’d described your feelings & your relationship to the old dear.

Poignant story where we would cry if we didn’t laugh at one another.

The old lady expecting everyone to understand her traditions (customs) and the youngster not being very sympathetic.

Points 3 - Very promising piece of writing

Hee Hee - serves you right for not asking for the manager.  I have learned the best way to get results, is to get the learned manager.  Even that might not work today.

I liked this piece.  It made me giggle at the end and ask myself, what is this world coming to?

Points 4 - Pretty close to perfect. I was captivated

I feel strange giving you points. Maybe I should say it's "pointless in Gaza!"

A sweet tale. I think you could give your three characters more depth by writing in the local dialect/vernacular. You would then paint the picture with sounds as the reader reads.
