Lizard

there was a lizard
in the courtyard today
fat-black shiny
yellow-striped
he ran across the straight roof-shadow's edge
into the sun
and lay there
on his belly
alert and breathing
on the hot cement.
The very tip
(just the tip - so delicate!)
of his tail
anchored across the shadow's edge.

His fore-arms (fore-paws? fore-legs?) were raised backwards -
a swimmer about to break the water in a butterfly-stroke...

he made me laugh.

Wholesome images.
The way he moves across the roof like a
swimmer breaking water.
I can see him move thru your eyes.  I loved this. Yes, the last line made mirth out of the little fella.  A joyous piece.
