Oh Well!

Yes, I'm having one of those
"Oh well," days.

Perhaps I'm wrong, maybe it's an
"If only" day.

The "Oh Well" and "If only"
Days seem to get more frequent as we mature
And ponder more.

Does maturity give us a greater insight into life?
Do we see things more clearly?

Or is it perhaps mere self-indulgence?

A recent event brought home
  to me the
Vulnerability of life and love.
Sadly - oh, so sadly.

Remorse is a ghastly emotion.
It never leaves you feeling good.
It's useless as it doesn't appear to
Make things better for yourself or the poor person
The remorse is centred on.
Yet it probably is
The worst emotional experience
We are subject too.
It's too late!

And yet impossible to shake off.
At my age the bitter experience will not make me wiser.
No! Life is filled with this sensation only when it is
Too Late.
If only....

Oh well. If only. We cannot undo what’s done, and “I’m sorry” seems so inadequate. To forgive ourselves is a very hard thing, but unless we do, there’s no peace. Did writing the poem help you do that?

When I was younger, I envisioned my older self brimming with wisdom, but I have come to know that your line is true:

At my age the bitter experience will not make me wiser.

Ah, well.

I guess we all have things we regret and I guess as we get older that list may grow, however I find it so much more useful to focus on the here and now.
I like your poem. I feel you write from your heart.
A poem is 'good' or 'recognised' if it 'speaks' to other people, if there is something in it that is an echo for others. I am sure you have echoed many other people's thoughts
